My (1.5 yrs) son and I thoroughly enjoyed this zoo. The animals looked generally happy and my son really enjoyed all the attractions. I appreciate the open areas where he can run around as well. The shows were great and I love their approach when treating animals such as not forcing them to do anything if the animals don't feel like doing it. I feel the zoo's landscaping was also very well done. I have been to zoo's where everything are just simple enclosures or even cages. I would recommend coming to this zoo.
Calgary Zoo is one of the best spots to spend a day in Calgary, maybe even the best spot, because it's good for single visitor as much as it's good for a family of ten people. It's also great place to go for visitors of any age. Huge varieties of animals from all around the world. Territory is clean and well maintained, with many places to rest, eat and play. Lemurs exhibition gives you a chance to stay and watch lemurs walking between your feet. Worth every penny.
After visiting the zoo at Bronx (New York), I don't think I am ever gonna like any other zoo. Calgary zoo has it's own good parts though. Once you get in, the first thing you see after crossing the gift shop are the penguins. Which my kiddo loved. Then after crossing different animal areas, you may encounter a peacock roaming around. The cafeteria is just decent. You get a veggie burger option as well which was much better than the chicken burger as the chicken burger had the chicken nuggets inside it instead of chicken patty. Calgary zoo has a small play area where kids of almost all age can spend their time. Overall it will take you the whole day to cover the entire zoo.
I come here about once every 3 years. My most recent visit was with my uncle and my daughter. We all had a good time. The admission is a bit steep, but there are enough fun exhibits to make it worthwhile.Negatives - Some of the animals I saw in past visits are gone, such as the rhinos, the kangaroos, the koalas, bats, elephants, and I noticed there are not nearly as many monkeys as before. But I understand they are expensive and need a certain amount of space. Also, I was disgusted and disappointed to see garbage in the butterfly room! There should be a security guard stationed in the building so ignorant people throw their trash away properly!Positives - The animal collection is still impressive. I always learn something new and interesting whenever I come. This zoo has beautiful landscaping. The animal cages are clean and they look content. My young daughter thoroughly enjoyed the spaces for children. Her favorite was climbing into the pouch of the kangaroo statue, a relic from the now defunct Australia exhibit. We visited the panda exhibit on a Wednesday, which seemed to be a good time to see them, as it was not overly crowded. And their ice cream is delicious.Random thought - this zoo should look into getting ocelots. I would visit a lot more frequently if they did.Check out this place if you haven't been. Or if you have, keep coming back as they always have something new. It makes for a fun day out.
There was such a large selection of beautiful animals to see. The penguin display was so unique it was cozy and it felt like we were really interacting with the penguins. Although they let way too many people in at once so it was way too crowded I ended up getting body checked with my baby in my arms! The main eating area have a really good selection of food. We are chicken and rice.. I had a Buddha bowl.. There were burgers and hot dogs and so many sweet options. The butterfly exhibit was phenomenal it felt like magic. There was lots of interactive games and entertainment for the kids to keep them intrigued through the very long walk.
