Enough is enough! My high school daughter & I purchased a puppy from Top Dog and she completed a review of Top Dog and they tried to discredit her. I told her it was not worth the time it would take to refute their comments on google review. Yet, here we are a year later and Top Dog is rewording their claim that she was never a customer in another attempt to discredit her review of one year ago. Why? Well, here is my version of events. As my daughter said, when we purchased our Morkie, Ruby, on March 7, 2016, the in-store staff was kind and helpful. The store was filled with puppies, toys and happy people. When I asked a question I would get a positive response which often included, we can set that up, but you will need to contact the manager, Marion, directly. Marion Church a.k.a. the Pet Gal was not in store on either day that we were in Calgary. After our purchase we called her, she refuted most things that the store staff said she would accommodate for out of town customers. She was repeatedly belligerent on the phone and turned a special adoption process into an excessively expensive and questionable process. We were required to buy a $300 warranty that we could not use, had medical bills for pre-existing conditions that she argued about and she would not allow us to see inspection reports of the breeder. I wanted to let sleeping dogs lie, if it meant that we did not have to deal with Marion or Top Dog again. But Top Dog is dredging up old reviews and trying to discredit the reviewer, again. Enough is enough! FYI, my daughter is an amazing pet owner and Ruby is a delightfully happy dog that makes us smile every day! I DO NOT recommend this business.
While I understand that the dogs are individuals and the store has no direct control over their actions, the dogs we met who were out to play were extremely misbehaved. My friend sat on the ground to pet them and they jumped on her, biting her shoulders, arms, and ear. They were difficult to pull off of her, and one person had to try and hold back all 3 dogs while she struggled to get out. The dogs didn't break the skin, but left a few marks on her skin, and we left soon after.
Thank you for finding the perfect puppy for me. I am in love with my precious Yorkshire/Maltese. I searched 3 years before I met her. Megan put Sophia in my arms and shared her information with me. I am very impressed with the knowledge and care they have shown to me about their dogs. I feel supported and encouraged by all the staff.
My experience with the top dog store was mind boggling. Not only are the animals unbelievably overpriced, (you could get the same random mixes from a rescue for 1/4 of the price and not support backyard breeding) they seemed unhappy in their tiny glass pens, and the staff seemed clueless about the breeds. Considering this is one of the only places I am aware of that continues to go the route of supporting breeding rather than supporting rescue, I at least expected a certain level of knowledge about the breeds/behavior of the animals from the staff, and I was wrong. The staff were kind, but didnt seem to know much beyond telling me why I should buy a puppy. I see from other reviews (and the fact that reviews are hidden on their Facebook page) that I am not alone. I'm sure I'll get the same "here is why you should buy from us" sales pitch I see pasted on every other low review. Go to one of the many rescues in Calgary, you'll save a life, save some cash, and save yourself from dealing with a store that approaches you as a salesman instead of an animal lover.
I've long thought the number of dogs showing up on the Facebook page was suspicious. Apparently me angry reacting to a photo is grounds to be banned, which is even more suspicious, then coming into this review section and seeing the owner reply to any negative review with an advertisement kind of says it all. Dismissing bad reviews as "just animal rights activism" without any constructive solution Is like me as a car salesman dismissing a bad review as "oh you must be a mechanic!" Before you throw me in the same hat, I've gotten many pets through breeders, but the more I look into this business the less interested I am in supporting it! Also, the prices? Good lord!
